A dramatization of the true events during August 22nd, 1972, a man named Sonny (Al Pacino) engages in a bank heist that goes all wrong. Lasting almost 12 hours, Sonny and his accomplice are met with lengthy hostage negotiations, all the while bringing the character of who he really is out for all to see (and gaining sympathy from some of the hostages in the process!). The motive to all this? ...A way to pay for his gay lover's sex change.
