Academy Award-winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Babette's Feast, is based on a story written by Isac Dinesen and directed by Gabriel Axel. The story is about two sisters who, under their late father's instruction, sacrifice their worldly pleasures like romance and fame and seek refuge in religion. The years pass by and both sisters remain as spinsters. One day a French war refugee, Babette (Stephane Audran), comes to work for them. He (Babette) holds a secret that may allow the old ladies to have a second chance in life. The acting is natural and the cinematography evokes the dark beauty of 19th century.The many twists and turns keep viewers captivated throughout this movie.
