Jim Davis (Christian Bale) is a veteran traumatized by his experience in Afghanistan whose erratic and unstable behavior is overlooked by his friend Mike Alonzo (Freddy Rodriquez). When Jim discovers that he lost the chance for a job with the LAPD due to a failed psychological profile, he persuades Mike to forgo his job search while they drink, do drugs, and cause mayhem in Los Angeles. All the while Mike lies to his girlfriend Sylvia (Eva Longoria), about his seemingly successful job hunting. Jim soon becomes torn when he is forced to decide whether to return to the life of a soldier or attempt his dream of living with his beloved girlfriend in Mexico.
