Jack Foley (George Clooney) is serving a sentence in South Florida for bank robbery which he has no intention of completing. With the help of his friend, Buddy Bragg (Ving Rhames), Jack escapes prison. Unfortunately, a federal marshal, Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez) is coincidentally in the parking lot at the same time that the escape takes place. The marshal is kidnapped by the duo and then later released. Karen goes on the hunt for Jack but while she finds Jack on several occasions, she also finds that she is attracted to him. Jack continues to elude the law and goes to Detroit to pull of his final heist. Karen follows and must sort through her feelings about Jack and about her job.
