During ancient Egyptian times, High Priest Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) is sentenced to death for having an affair with a pharaoh’s concubine, Anck Su Namun (Patricia Velasquez), who kills the pharaoh and then herself. Fast forward to 1923, where rambunctious mercenary Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) is saved from hanging by the beautiful and ambitious, yet clumsy Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), who wants to use O’Connell’s knowledge to find Egyptian treasures and justify her reputation in the archeological world. Another group of treasure hunters race against O’Connell and Carnahan to find the treasure, but accidentally reanimate the long-dead priest, who uses his victims to rebuild his body and wants to use Carnahan as a sacrifice to return his long dead Anck Su Namun to life. O’Connell’s former mercenary comrade, Beni Gabor (Kevin J. O’Connor), causes complications for everyone when he assists THE MUMMY. Assisting O’Connell and Carnahan are Ardeth Bay (Oded Fehr), a member of an ancient order assigned to prevent the priest’s rebirth, and Carnahan’s brother, Jonathan (John Hannah).
